Over the summer, our team immersed ourselves in the lyricism and sound of the alt-rock group Joywave during their performance at the Observatory in North Park, San Diego.
Joywave’s artistic expression shone throughout their eccentric show as the bandmembers, dressed in carwash uniforms, performed their set in front of a striking light-up car and entrancing digital foam visuals.
Catchy, new-wave synth grooves and warm, nostalgic guitar lines danced together with pensive lyrics as they performed, highlighting the personal yet playful reflections of the group.
These sentiments were unmistakably present as they performed the song “Every Window Is A Mirror” with lead vocalist Daniel Armbruster chanting the chorus “yeah, every window is a mirror” as a commentary on how the way one views the world is often a reflection of one’s inner self rather than an impartial observation of society.
A colorful look inside the “mirror” of Joywave’s journey, their music placed us in the passenger seat of a cleansing ride through the group’s introspective inquisitions of the complicated world around them.

Shygirl, London-based artist and multihyphenate, released her full-length debut album Nymph in October last year, putting listeners under a spell with her siren-like sultriness. From Arca-produced innovative reggaetón tune “Come For Me” to dazzling hyperpop lead single “Firefly,” Shygirl boasts an impressive discography that reflects her enamoring personality. In Nymph, she explores the themes of romance, intimacy, self-love, and sexuality, resulting in twelve sonically and lyrically bright tracks crafted in collaboration with producers such as Mura Masa, Sega Bodega, and Karma Kid. Shygirl’s powerful voice is one that commands to be heard, and our experience at the San Diego stop of the Nymph World Tour was nothing short of ethereal.
“This is my main character moment. This is for all the main characters in the room tonight!” Shygirl announced before delivering a standout performance of “FREAK.” Under the purple lights, she sang and swayed, entrancing the entire crowd.
After a dreamy performance of “Wildfire,” which tells a tale of infatuation, Shygirl received a euphoric welcome from the audience as she stepped back on stage for an encore. She closes the night with fan favorites such as “Missin u” and “BDE,” presenting a sensuous experience that is impossible to forget. Traveling through a wide range of emotions and scenarios, Shygirl’s March 25th show at Music Box SD put all of her strengths and talents as a multifaceted musician and electrifying persona on full display. Genres and personal narratives blend and bend in her masterful storytelling, the impact of which translates onto the dance floor.
Vault Fall/Winter ‘23 Issue
Edited and directed a team of 30+ writers, photographers, designers, developers, marketers, and event coordinators to pull together theme (Vault) based submissions for the issues. Worked with the design team to piece together the magazine and make it cohesive. Planned a release party with performances, which the event coordinators put together.
“Vault celebrates the underground; things once stigmatized recieve open appreciation today. Vault celebrates the deeply personal; items meaningful to us and nonsensical to others are still valued beyond these differences– an artistic act of self-expression. Vault celebrates the past in the present; things we treasure can be preserved over time but still change with added meaning once dug up. Vault is our enjoyment of the retro, the vintage, and the avant garde.”

Thrifty Thursdays + TREND Ambassadors
Revamped an annual fundraising event into a weekly collaborative pop-up thrift shop between TREND and Shop Jazzy Threads. Aimed at promoting sustainable fashion and consumption while spreading the word about our organizations.

Style By College: A Campaign Seeking Ambassadors
Oversaw the creation of an ambassadors program aimed to promote Thrifty Thursdays and include more students in the TREND community. Gave ambassadors additional opportunities to help out with projects in their field and the choice to move up to a staff position in the following recruiting cycle.

A “missing person’s” campaign aimed to promote weekly pop-up thrift shops through an ambassador’s program in which selected candidates create content for the magazine’s social media platforms in exchange for clothing from the organization‘s stock and opportunities to get further involved (passion projects, better chance at a staff role, etc.).
